My Approach to Therapy
Alyson Lowe is a compassionate and highly skilled Licensed Social Worker (LSW) with over 15 years of experience supporting individuals and families across diverse social care settings. Her professional philosophy centers on empowerment, dignity, and person-centered care, helping clients build resilience and long-term, sustainable well-being through a collaborative relationship.
At Foundations Counseling, Alyson Lowe works with a wide variety of clients who may be seeking services that include:
· Children, adolescents, and teens: self-injury (including cutting), self-esteem and self-worth issues, suicidal ideation, anxiety, depression, drug and alcohol concerns, school and family issues, challenging family dynamics, abuse, attention-deficit hyperactivity (ADHD), eating-related challenges, grief and loss, and trauma
· Mental health and wellness: anxiety, depression, stress, bipolar challenges, sexual and gender identity issues, grief and loss, drug and alcohol abuse and addiction recovery, obesity and weight loss, sex and porn addiction recovery, schizophrenia, life coaching, personality-related challenges, posttraumatic stress (PTSD), religious trauma, anger management, adjustment, attachment issues, assertiveness training, and boundaries
· Relationship and couples counseling: communication, affairs, parent-child interactions, attachment issues, boundary issues, conflict resolution, dating and breakups, divorce and divorce recovery, parenting issues, and managing the mental load
· Individual counseling: abuse, addictions, anger management, posttraumatic stress (PTSD), stress management, panic attacks, anxiety, depression, LGBTQIA+ issues, weight issues, and religious trauma and deconstruction
Alyson Lowe holds a Master of Social Work (MSW) from Colorado State University and a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Missouri Southern State University. She is registered in the State of Colorado as a Licensed Social Worker (LSW). Alyson is also a Certified Health Coach through the American Council on Exercise, and she integrates this expertise through behavior management, along with fitness and nutrition counseling. She has a long history as a motivator, counselor, mediator, and trainer. She is known for her empathetic communication style, sense of humor, relaxed approach, and open-minded, nonjudgmental presence.
Before joining Foundations Counseling, Alyson held several key roles in a variety of settings, including serving in the nonprofit sector, providing individual, child, and family therapy, and working in child protection. She has also supported clients receiving inpatient mental health care, including in her role as a mental health therapist on the Child and Family Team with North Range Behavioral Health in Greeley, Colorado.
When not working with clients, Alyson enjoys volunteering in the community as an ally, advocate, and activist for the LGBTQIA+ community and other marginalized communities, hanging out with her two grandchildren, hiking, backpacking, roller skating, going to concerts and festivals, practicing yoga, working out in the gym, golfing, storm spotting, reading, and relaxing at home with her three cats.
