My Approach to Helping
PLEASE NOTE: I AM NOT TAKING NEW CLIENTS AT THIS TIME. My goal as a counselor is to create a safe, nurturing environment to help you make practical changes in your life. The path to making these changes is developing a safe, trusting relationship. Reaching out to a therapist is not always easy and sharing intimate details of your life can be challenging. I will honor your story and the journey that we will make together in therapy. As our relationship grows, we can explore how your thoughts, feelings, attitudes and beliefs support or interfere with you making necessary changes in your life. I welcome exploration associated with spirituality and religion, sexuality, community and culture.
I help people like you. Common concerns when starting therapy are related to frustrations and fear associated with job stressors, conflicts with loved ones or friends, uncertainty about big decisions, or an overall desire to improve one's view of self and others.
I also strongly believe that people with intellectual disabilities (clinically described as mental retardation) as well as people with autism spectrum disorders benefit from therapy. I have experienced the success that people with disabilities achieve in therapy, which is sometimes fostered by creative adaptations and the acknowledgment of cultural stigmas.
More Info About My Practice
Typically, an individual therapy session takes place once or twice per week for 50 minutes at $115 per session. Sessions are typically scheduled on the same day and time each week, but more flexible arrangement are also available. Length of treatment varies with each client. Depending on your goals and participation, therapy may help you feel somewhat better in a few weeks, though deeper change will take a longer period of time.
I offer one free 25 minute consultation for potential clients who prefer to meet in person and discuss the possibility of beginning therapy. I have a limited number of reduced fee slots for students, interns, recently unemployed and people with developmental disabilities. If you think that you may be eligible for a reduced fee, I am happy to discuss this during our first contact.
