My Approach to Helping
As your therapist I will guide and support you as you strive for positive change. What you learn in therapy will continue to be useful throughout your life. While the length of time in counselling may be minimal, the techniques, insight, and self-awareness you will gain will be rewarding and valuable for a long time after.
I am registered psychotherapist that specializes in children’s mental health, parenting and family therapy. For the past seventeen years I have supported children, youth and adolescents by helping their caregivers better understand, and help solve their challenges. I have supported parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles be their child’s life-long-counsellor. At the beginning of therapy I will collect a significant amount of information about you andor your family so I can gain an idea of the environment you grew up in and the quality of your relationships with those who mattered. We will work together to explore and make meaning of your values, beliefs and experiences. While our conversations might make you feel vulnerable and emotional, we will focus on your strengths and resilience to help you learn and grow from your challenges and turn it into wisdom.

I help overwhelmed worried parents feel less stressed and more confident in their parenting... Have you been feeling stressed and overwhelmed with your kids because they don’t listen or follow directions no matter how many times you tell them over and over? Do you feel like everything you do is wrong and nothing you do makes a difference, no matter what you try? You must be feeling frustrated. As a parent, I get it. Working with caregivers for seventeen years, I absolutely do get it! None of us are born experts in parenting. You are not alone and you don’t have to do this on your own. Parenting is a learning process and one that we will work together to figure out. Understanding children and teens and what makes each of them unique, can be challenging. What works for some, might not work for others. Parent counselling can provide insight into how you can better interact and bring out the best in your child. I help distressed teens (and concerned parents) better understand and cope with challenges while building strengths to be more resilient... I help strained families repair their fractured relationships, so they can feel understood, appreciated and loved... No family is perfect. Many of us grow up thinking our family problems are normal. So how can we tell if our family is not functioning well? Recognizing unhealthy patterns within our family can be difficult. We might shrug it off as… “its just who we are and how we get along”. What is easily recognizable are the symptoms - the way it makes us feel unsettled, frustrated, stressed and the feeling as if walking on eggshells (to name a few). Therapy will help everyone in your family explore ways to improve communication, solve problems, understand and handle family challenges, as well as create an overall better functioning home environment. Important Factors for Choosing a Therapist
There are many factors that go into choosing a therapist. My style and approach has been viewed by clients as offering unique insight and therapy techniques, that more traditional therapy models don't always allow for. Much of my practice is based around parent counselling and coaching, while utilizing traditional cognitive behavioural, solution focused and narrative therapies, through an attachment and trauma informed perspective and strength-based approach. Many of my clients appreciate my holistic and integrative approach and style of therapy.
