My Approach to Helping
One of the beautiful things I have the privilege of witnessing as a therapist is the ever evolving changes and awareness clients develop throughout their healing and growth process. I fully believe that each and everyone of us are worth investing the work within ourselves when we develop the courage to seek help. I consider the therapeutic relationship between a client and I to be a team effort towards reaching the client’s desired goals and outcomes in a safe, non-judgemental space. I utilize a variety of evidenced-based methods of practice as a part of therapeutic process, such as acceptance and commitment based therapy (ACT), trauma focused cognitive behavioral therapy (TF-CBT), cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), solution focused therapy, person-centered therapy, strength-based, and mindfulness.
More Info About My Practice
I graduated with a Masters of Arts degree in Counseling with a Specialization in Sport and Health Psychology from Adler University in Chicago, IL. I also earned a Bachelors of Science degree in Exercise Science from Miami University in Oxford, OH. My formal training has allowed me to experience a variety of populations in a therapeutic setting, including working with youths of different cultural, social, economic, and gender backgrounds with significant trauma histories, and families within the DCFS system. Having a specialty in Sport and Health Psychology has expanded my experience to also working with more performance based clients, such as athletes and sport teams to provide mental skills training to enhance physical performance. Mental skills techniques presented to athletes include, but not limited to, goal setting, focus and attention, working through blocks in performance and skill learning, cohesion, motivation, mantra development, and mental imagery.
I love being physically active. If it involves movement, I am all for it! Formerly a competitive figure skater, I still love to keep up with skating on my own and will perform in local ice shows for fun. I am also an avid runner, and enjoy running races from 5Ks to marathons. Other ways I like to keep active is by dancing, yoga, strength training, and running around with my dog, Baxter. I also love traveling and seeing the world with my husband. While I seem to be moving around a lot, I do love my down time just as much, such as going to brunch or grabbing coffee with friends, cooking, and taking naps.
