My Approach to Helping

I am a licensed clinical psychologist with a great deal of experience in helping individuals change their behaviors, their minds, and hence, their lives. Through the use of insight and supportive therapies, noetic-behavioral and cognitive behavioral techniques, biofeedback, hypnosis, eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR), relaxation and stress management, breathing strategies, communication training, and homework, clients are taught a variety of skills that are grounded in current scientific research and empirically tested strategies. Provided they practice these skills, clients can learn to help promote lasting change within themselves.

My services include the following: individual therapy; hypnosis and hypnotherapy; EMDR; and electromyography (EMG), heart rate variability therapy (HRV), STSC biofeedback with the following conditions: anxiety, panic, and anger management; psychophysiological conditions; stress and conflict management; post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD); trauma; phobias; agoraphobia; and existential, spiritual and transpersonal concerns.

I have over 80 professional publications, one book, "Quantifying consciousness: An empirical approach," and numerous presentations. The questionnaire I developed to map consciousness, the PCI, has been translated into 14 languages around the world. I am a Fellow of the American Psychological Association, elected for my "unusual and outstanding contributions in the field."

More Info About My Practice

I am a Licensed Clinical Psychologist in Private Practice in West Chester, PA. I obtained my doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology from Michigan State University in 1981. I did my undergraduate training at Penn State University, where I double majored in Philosophy and Psychology, having won the Dotterer for the outstanding Philosophy Major at Penn State. I completed my doctoral internship in Clinical Psychology at the Pittsburgh VA Consortium with subspecialities in biofeedback and family therapy.

I have over 40 years of experience in psychotherapy and clinical psychology, combining the wisdom of a philosopher with the knowledge of a scientist to help my clients regain the hope and skills that they need to change mind and behavior and help them move into health and wellness. Besides helping clients within the supportive and trusting therapeutic relationship, I teach clients how to change their minds, their brains, and their behaviors, to help promote lasting change within themselves, and better and healthier relationships with loved ones, friends, and family.
