My Approach to Helping

I want to help others to heal and learn to empower themselves to make good choices in their lives. I feel strongly that everyone can heal, even someone who believes it won't work for "me." Therapy can be a safe environment where one can explore thoughts, feelings, and emotions that may seem overwhelming. Having an impartial person to listen and focus on certain aspects of what is being said can help one to develop a new perspective.

Once you have a new perspective, one can shed old limiting beliefs and move on to a more positive focus on strengths in your life. I find joy in this process and love to see someone grow and move on from these limits to pursuit of more fulfilling lives. I am trained and experienced in working with PTSD persons. I use an integrated form of multiple therapies such as Rogerian Client Centered, Cognitive Behavioral, Mindfulness, Gestalt, and Visualization Modalities. I also use Emotional Freedom Technique when needed or requested.

I am skilled at helping with people dealing with PTSD, anxiety, panic attacks, depression, substance dependence, and relationship issues. I can teach you how to feel safe and more stable and then move onto more in-depth work when you are ready for it.

How Psychotherapy Can Help

I believe that everyone can be helped in psychotherapy. Essentially, a therapist listens to you without interruption, they do not know your family or relationships, and are unbiased about your problems. I have developed a unique set of skills to validate and help you to feel comfortable and at the same time focus on important aspects of your "story" so that you can gain insight and perspective that may have been missing when it is kept to yourself.

Talking about things that are painful and private can give you relief. You are not alone with overwhelming feelings and thoughts. Therapy can help you find that it is normal to have distorted thoughts at times and how to change these thoughts to be positive and productive in your life. Healing occurs when you are listened to and not judged. I have a non-judgmental approach so that you can be free to say whatever you are thinking and experiencing and therefore be able to figure out what is true for you.
