My Approach to Helping
Welcome! I am Dr. Natalie Zaragoza and I am an emotion-focused and experiential psychotherapist in private practice at Newport Couple & Family Therapy. My core belief in the therapeutic process is that healing, growth, and recovery are possible. I believe that humans are innately resilient and resourceful beings with a basic need to be in relationship to others. I emphasize healthy relationships as key in increasing self awareness, confidence, and emotional health.
My approach to psychotherapy is holistic in that I will encourage attention to your biological, psychological, social and relational development as important aspects to overall health and well-being. My personal style is client-centered and collaborative while at the same time, I will empower you to make decisions in align with your personal values and beliefs. I will strive to create an environment where we are able to explore what is most important to you. I will invite your collaboration and value your feedback.
In addition to being a therapist, I am proud to contribute to the field of marriage and family therapy by teaching and mentoring masters level therapists.
More Info About My Practice
I am a mental health specialist, having received my master of science and doctorate degree in marriage and family therapy from Loma Linda University.
My Therapy Focus
My clinical focus supports: young adults and adolescents, distressed couples, and those affected by substance abuse. I also help clients recover from depression, anxiety, and traumatic experiences. My overall goal lies in guiding clients to connect with their authentic self and their emotional and relationship needs. I primarily use emotionally focused and experiential therapy because I believe guiding clients through their emotional experience fosters long term change.
Important Factors for Choosing a Therapist
Marriage and family therapists are uniquely qualified in the assessment and treatment of individuals, couples, families, and groups. Marriage and family therapists have a core understanding about the couple and family system and are required to have met educational and clinical hour requirements working with couples, families, and children in order to practice. If you are seeking couple therapy or family therapy, it is important to know that you are seeing someone who specializes in relationship systems and who has these specific (or similar) qualifications.
