My Approach to Helping

Are you feeling overwhelmed, fearful or "stuck" due to stress or trauma? Together we can make sense of your past and present to help you feel more motivated, focused and calmer in the future.

What is is like to be in therapy with me? At the beginning we focus on figuring out the underlying reasons for your current symptoms and on building a solid therapeutic relationship. It is my priority for my clients to feel emotionally safe, connected and validated. The beginning of therapy often includes helping clients add some more practical "tools" to their coping "tool box" to help the better manage more troublesome symptoms that are getting in the way of their daily living.

Once a client has become comfortable and feels ready to begin deeper work, the methods I use depend on the client's goals and what methods best match the client's way of thinking and communicating. Both trauma and chronic, overwhelming stress can trigger debilitating symptoms such as feeling overwhelmed, scared, irritable, spacey or moody. I help people who have experienced trauma explore and make sense of difficult experiences, identify ways these experiences continue to impact them today, and help them to identify new, more positive ways of thinking and living their lives. I collaborate with people experiencing Burnout from chronic stress to help rebalance their lives, set healthier boundaries that prioritize their well-being, and help them strengthen their emotional resiliency skills.

I have been constantly amazed over the 20+ years I have worked in this field by clients' ability to face and overcome experiences and fears they felt they could never confront. If you have reached a point that you feel your past is catching up with you or your daily life feels like too much, I would love to meet with you to discuss how we can work together.

More Info About My Practice

Due to COVID precautions I am offering both in-person sessions in Walnut Creek as well as telehealth. I also offer a free telephone or video consultation to help potential clients decide whether I am a good fit.

Had a Negative Therapy Experience?

Most negative therapy experiences are the result of a client feeling judged, invalidated or otherwise not feeling emotionally safe with their therapist. It's important to me to engage my clients in an authentic, caring way and always encourage clients to give me feedback and ask questions if they aren't sure about what I am saying or my reactions. .
