My Approach to Helping
Are you feeling overwhelmed, fearful or "stuck" due to stress, anxiety or trauma? Together we can make sense of your past and present to help you feel more motivated, focused and calmer in the future.
What is it like to be in therapy with me? My priority is to help my clients feel emotionally safe, connected and validated. At the beginning we focus on figuring out the underlying reasons for your current symptoms and on building a solid therapeutic relationship. The beginning of therapy often includes helping clients add some more practical coping "tools" to help them better manage more troublesome symptoms that are getting in the way of their daily living. I help people with anxiety identify and change ways of thinking and behaving that are driving their symptoms. I help people who have experienced trauma explore and make sense of difficult experiences, identify ways these experiences continue to impact them today, and help them to identify new, more positive ways of thinking and living their lives. I collaborate with people burned-out from chronic stress to help rebalance their lives, set healthier boundaries that prioritize their well-being, and help them strengthen their emotional resiliency skills.
I have been constantly amazed over the 20+ years I have worked in this field by clients' ability to face and overcome experiences and fears they felt they could never confront. If you have reached a point that you feel your past is catching up with you or your daily life feels like too much, I would love to meet with you to discuss how we can work together. I offer in-person sessions at my Walnut Creek office on Tuesdays and also offer telehealth sessions.
