My Approach to Helping
I am a warm and nonjudgmental person with many years experience. People with a wide variety of problems find me helpful in helping them resolve their issues. Many people scheduled for bariatric surgery find it helpful to understand their underlying issues and how the surgery is a life-long commitment. Many people feel bariatric surgery is a quick fix to their weight problem. When I do their assessments we discuss how the surgery is the first step to changing their eating habits.
More Info About My Practice
I do not take insurance. Insurance companies do not give very much reimbursement for psychotherapy to their members. I give a receipt that can be sent to a person's insurance company for reimbursement for my services as an out of system provider. My fee is $175 per hour. I can go a little lower if a person is having financial difficulties. I am concerned people get the help they need.
Why Going to Therapy Does Not Mean You are Weak or Flawed
I feel a person shows strength going to psychotherapy if they feel they have a problem. Going to a therapist doesn't mean a therapist can tell someone what to do, but to help them gain knowledge and skills to be able to know the correct course for their lives.
My View on the Nature of 'Disorders'
I love helping people resolve their problems. I look at myself as a trained guide with skills to help people look at their issues objectively. A disorder is something that is causing stress or feelings of hopelessness or helplessness and it may not be significant to others, but is to the person experiencing the "disorder".
