My Approach to Helping
Each client is unique and presents with his or her own counseling needs and concerns. For this reason, there is no one approach that may work best for everyone. With this principle in mind, I utilize integrative models involving insight-oriented, cognitive behavioral, developmental, solution-focused, and mind-body-spirit models, and employ an eclectic counseling approach. Theoretically, I rely heavily on Rogerian person-centered, cognitive behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing, reality therapy, and behavioral counseling approaches. These are well-established, researched, and respected therapies.
I am a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor Supervisor (License # S10101), Licensed Clinical Addictions Specialist (License # 3212), Certified Clinical Supervisor (License # CCS-20365), Certified Sex Offender Treatment Specialist (Cert # 27948), and Certified Criminal Profiler (Cert # 27948). I provide services as an Outpatient Therapist. I have a MS in Rehabilitation Counseling and Career Counseling (2012), a MS in Clinical Counseling and Substance Abuse (2012), and a Master’s level Certificate in Vocational Evaluation (2012) all from East Carolina University. I have a post-master’s certifications as a Certified Sex Offender Treatment Specialist and Certified Criminal Profiler, both issued by the National Association of Forensic Counselors, and lastly, Master Addiction Counselor certification issued by the National Certification Commission for Addiction Professionals. I also have a BA in Psychology (1999) from East Carolina University. I have attended multiple specialized trainings, workshops, and conferences in a variety of both mental health and substance abuse areas in an effort to continue my education, increase my clinical skills, and maintain my professional license and certifications.
I have experience working with children, adolescents, and adults in individual, group, couples, and family settings. Areas of treatment have surrounded personal, behavioral, emotional, relationship, and family difficulties, as well as working with clients with histories of addiction and trauma. I provide counseling services to children, adolescents, and adults with mental health concerns, behavioral concerns/challenges, substance use, and marital and family relationship problems. I refer individuals to other mental health professionals when appropriate.
