My Approach to Helping

Whether it's teaching children and families valuable communication and problem solving skills, healing from the past, or exploring and capitalizing on strengths to create the life you want to live, we work together to remove the obstacles that have gotten in your way.

With a compassionate and encouraging approach, we identify strengths, then build from those to collaboratively create the pathway to your goals. If you are looking for encouragement, empowerment, skill building, making changes or transformation, we can support you on your goals.

The office is conveniently located on Jorie Blvd. between 22nd and 31st street in Oak Brook, easily accessible for the greater Chicagoland area. Tele-mental health services are also offered for those with transportation and time issues. BCBS PPO and Private Pay

More Info About My Practice

Compassionate, caring, and collaborative are 3 foundations to my counseling approach. The use of evidence-backed and based encouraging, enlightening, and empowering interventions are integral in supporting you in achieving your goals.

Specialized services for Parents, Gifted Children, and Twice-exceptional children.

With certifications in Positive Discipline and training in Parent Management Techniques from the Yale Parent Center, experiential and evidence-based and backed individual and group parent trainings are offered in-person and on-line. Know that there are research-backed and based parent training methods that decrease child problem behaviors, decrease parental stress (anxiety and/or depression), and that help parents have more fulfilling, more loving, and more connected relationships with their children. These are the methods that I teach. If you do not take parent courses with us, please make sure you take parent courses from someone certified in a research-backed and based parent training method.

The gifted population has unique characteristics and challenges. Having served on the Social and Emotional committee of the Illinois Association for Gifted Children since 2009, supporting parents over the last 8 years in the state of Illinois and across the U.S. through seminars, trainings, publishing a book on Parenting Young Gifted Children, giving talks and lectures, consults and counseling, I understand the complexity, and the social and emotional needs of gifted children, adults, and parents. Consultations, counseling, skill building, parenting support, case management and recommendations are offered online and in-person to those in the state of Illinois.

My Therapy Focus

My approach is an integrated Adlerian approach that culminated from two masters degrees and the integrated modalities from the 20 plus years of clinical work that included Person-centered, Solution-focussed, Neuropsychology, mind-body interactions, CBT/DBT, Narrative Therapy, multi-cultural counseling, Motivational Interviewing, Individual Psychology, psychodynamic, Cogmed working memory training, Positive Discipline and Parent Management. Adlerian approaches encompass skill building to creating more positive approaches towards life, from cognitive behavioral training to understanding old patterns that no longer serve you and choosing new ways of living.

On the Fence About Going to Therapy?

If transportation, scheduling, or time is an issue, you might want to consider Online Distance Counseling. Distance counseling is provided face-to-face through a HIPAA compliant video conferencing platform, like Facetime, only HIPAA compliant.

The Distance Credentialed Counselor (DCC) credential identifies those professional counselors who are uniquely trained in best practices for delivering traditional counseling through technological means. Catherine, as a DCC, has met nationally established distance counseling criteria and adheres to the National Board for Certified Counselors (NBCC) Code of Ethics and Policy Regarding the Provision of Distance Professional Services.

In-person and on-line Appointments are available throughout the week and on Sundays, and I offer an online portal for each service so you can schedule or change your appointments, and communicate with me confidentially.
