My Approach to Helping
I craft my therapeutic approach from what springs up naturally between therapist and client. I practice Relational Psychotherapy and employ therapeutic techniques based on your needs and goals, offering a warm, non-judgmental space for exploring conflicting emotions, negative thinking patterns, and aspects of the self that have been wounded or may have been lost to you. I have extensive experience working with depression, anxiety, trauma, psychosis, life transitions, grief, and domestic violence. Together we can explore your experience, its origins, how it has affected your sense of self and your relationships, as well as its meaning in your life.
I am bilingual (Spanish) and accustomed to working with cultural differences. I work eclectically, drawing from a variety of therapeutic techniques and methods. These include Somatic Awareness, Mindfulness, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), solution-focused therapy, cognitive behavioral techniques, self-inquiry, mind-body awareness, active imagination techniques; symbol and dream work.
As a Washington State Ethnic Minority Mental Health Specialist (EMMHS) I am certified to provide consultation to mental health clinicians for the Hispanic population. I am approved by Washington State as a clinical supervisor for those who are working towards becoming a licensed psychotherapist.
Providing psychotherapy in English and Spanish to adults, teens, and couples is a large part of what I do, however, I also conduct psychological assessments for immigrants seeking asylum, U Visa, VAWA visas, or cancellation of removal. I have extensive training and experience with trauma survivors and with victims of domestic violence and have received specialized training in the assessment of the psychological sequelae of torture and other human rights abuses. I offer an independent evaluation and will make recommendations consistent with what I find in the clinical interview to your lawyer for submission to immigration court. I also provide hardship letters for the spouses of immigrants in cases of cancellation of removal.
