My Approach to Helping
I believe that therapy should bring you closer to who-you-are. Helping you be a more authentic presence in your work, relationships, hobbies, and personhood. The experience of therapy is a lot like a great massage. It gets under your skin, sometimes deep into your bones, and releases things that are painful. Sometimes it's relaxing, sometimes painful. At the end of the day, it's a healthy release bringing you closer to who you are.
I got into this work a lot like you. Things weren't working out in life; my career, education, and most of all relationships. I've spent a fair amount of time in school but I am a firm believer that we change when we are in the presence of authentic relationships. Understanding goes a long way, but if all of who we are can be accepted amidst all our complex and painful feelings, we will grow and improve far more than "interventions" and "techniques."
