My Approach to Helping
When you are recovering from a traumatic experience, or recovering from anxiety, or depression, it can often seem like you will never recover from those moments. Try as you might, there just seems to be no way that you can move past the situation that has caused you so much, worry, sadness, or trauma. At times, you might not even be aware of what is causing the experience, this is also true of traumatic events that happened some time ago. All you know is this...there is something in your life that is interfering with your ability to participate fully in your life and the life of your loved ones.
This is where I can help you learn how to navigate those moments and EmPower you to effectively manage how you happen to life. I specialize in working with trauma, anxiety, and depression. To help navigate these issues I take a holistic approach using gestalt therapy as my foundational approach to working with clients and integrate transactional analysis where appropriate. Dealing with you as an entire being means that we look at how those issues are not only impacting you mentally, but also physically, and relationally.
To help facilitate the process of awareness, responsibility, and growth, why questions are largely avoided. Asking “why” does nothing more than seek an external explanation for the behavior and further blocks deeper exploration. How, what, and where questions are used because they allow for the development of awareness. I also operate from a basic premise that all behavior is motivated by and designed to accomplish one of three things: Avoid, Maintain, or Gain something. That something is either Psychological (Harm or Safety), Emotional (Harm or Safety), or Physical (Harm or Safety). While it is probable that there is some overlap between the three motivators, one will be the primary motivator.
