My Approach to Helping

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor Associate (A14516) and I am also a Board-Certified Telemental Health provider in the state of North Carolina. Having worked in the counseling profession for over two years, my passions include working with individuals to find hope and healing within their deepest pain and grief. My specialties include working with depression, anxiety, mood disorders, and griefloss. I provide services in a private practice setting to individuals of all ages. I also provide distance counseling via video-conferencing software if you are located within the state of North Carolina.

Working through my own deepest, darkest wounds, I know what it is like to struggle, and I know the relief and anticipation of breakthrough. I know what is it like to sit in suffering, what it feels like to pour out my heart and soul, and what it is like to sit on the other side of the therapist room in fear of the unknown. Working in collaboration with you, I will work with you to provide a safe place in which you and your loved ones can talk without fear of judgment. Providing unconditional positive regard, I listen to not only your words, but to every part of your soul, your story, to help you discover the innermost parts of yourself to help you feel alive again while finding hope and healing.

I also work with adolescents and children to help them navigate through life’s toughest situations, including school and home. Utilizing play therapy, I help children feel safe and secure while providing them a safe place to use their natural language-the language of play. I have also been known to use expressive arts and creative therapies with adults as well.

If you are reading this, then I hope you will allow me to walk with you on this journey toward infinite hope no matter what situation you find yourself in. I am able to provide counseling and therapy for many types of issues. If you are unsure or are on the fence about therapy, I can help. Call me today at (252)989-0400 for a free consultation to discuss your needs today.

My Role as a Therapist

My role as a therapist is not to fix you, change you, or create you into something that you are not. My role is to come alongside you as you navigate life's toughest decisions and most painful moments. My job is to actively listen to you and provide empathy and support in what you are going through. The things we talk about may seem tough, painful to talk about, and there may be days you may not want to talk about things and that is okay. I am here to help you and to support you in working towards the goals that you and I set together. My role is to help you find the infinite hope that you may have lost along the way in your journey.

How My Own Struggles Made Me a Better Therapist

Working through my own struggles has definitely had a profound impact upon my therapy practice. I have struggled with mood disorders such as depression and anxiety and know what it is like to feel lost and alone, not knowing how to cope or how to function in everyday life while having to struggle with these issues. Having experienced these things myself makes me better able to empathize and connect with the feelings and thoughts that a client is feeling. Who better to take someone through the darkness than someone who has been there themselves?
