My Approach to Helping
Gillian G. Haygood, LPC, believes depression, anxiety, and trauma frequently distort how a person perceives themselves and the world around them. Her goal is to offer a therapeutic experience that shows where the distortions are and gives each client a new vision world. Her hope is for clients to go from surviving to thriving because of the coping skills and truths they will learn throughout the therapy process.
Gillian earned both an undergraduate and graduate degree from North Park University. Her over twenty year career includes work in child welfare, maternal case management, and individual therapy for clients age six and up. In addition, she is a trainer for ARC (Attachment Regulation and Competency) and is certified in Child Centered Play Therapy, and DBT.
In therapy, Gillian uses CBT, DBT, Mindfulness, Positive Psychology, Narrative Therapy, Christian Counseling (upon request), Psycho Education, Person Centered Therapy, Play Therapy, and more to meet client needs. From the time a client arrives at initial appointment they are moving forward and seeking change. Change in thoughts and habits take time, but with courage, humility, and choices that promote healthy coping mechanisms, that change will come. Gillian will be a teacher and encourager during this process.
Gillian regularly asks her clients what they do to refresh themselves, even if it's a brief activity. To refresh herself, Gillian walks and plays with her dogs, rides her bike, reads a good novel, plays Word Chums on her phone, and listens to music of various genres.
