Gaithersburg is a city in Montgomery County, Maryland. It covers 10 square miles. The settlement was first known as Log Town, then Forest Oak. The name changed to Gaithersburg when the town was incorporated in 1878. 

Gaithersburg has 68,000 inhabitants. It is one of the largest cities in Maryland. From 2010 to 2016 the population increased by 13%. Around 77% of people in Gaithersburg are American citizens, compared to 93% of people nationwide.

The ethnic composition of Gaithersburg is 37% white, 25% Hispanic, 18% Asian, and 17% black. Forty percent of residents are foreign-born. Over 48% of residents speak a foreign language at home. The city is home to 12,200 Spanish speakers and 3,600 Chinese speakers.
