I provide therapy for adults and adolescents in a caring and collaborative environment. I am committed to meeting each individual or family wherever they are in their process, whether it be to define an issue that has been difficult to articulate or to address more specific and or chronic concern. I assist individuals at various stages of development to cope with life's challenges, face inner conflict and emotional struggle and communicate better with each other. Specific Issue(s) I'm Skilled at Helping With
I have specialized training and experience working with individuals struggling with traumatic experiences, family of origin issues and eating disorders. Additionally, because of my background working with young adults in college counseling centers, and my training in family therapy, I have a well-developed skill set for addressing identity development, life transition and family dynamic issues.
My View on the Purpose of Psychotherapy
The purpose of psychotherapy is quite variable depending on an individual's needs. Some clients come into therapy feeling like their life is generally satisfactory but they are seeking a deeper understanding of themselves, others and meaning in their life. Other individuals, come to therapy seeking relief from specific issues, such as, anxiety, depression, loneliness, relationship difficulties, self-esteem/body image issues and/or a range of behaviors they find difficult to manage (e.g. drinking, self-injury, eating, etc.). Thus, the goal of psychotherapy should closely match what a person is struggling with and provide relief from suffering, acceptance of personal limitations, better understanding of self and the world, and greater sense of satisfaction in life.
