Over the years of working as a therapist and a supervisor of therapists, I have come to see that therapy is about change. People engage a therapist when they are stuck in their current negative patterns and feel incapable of moving towards positive change. They have typically tried different things but to little avail. Many clients have engaged me as a last resort to overcoming their troubles.

I work collaboratively with clients. It is important that clients feel empowered with the right insights and skills to become "unstuck". The best therapists help clients to get in touch with their own strengths to make lasting change happen -- I strive to do the same for my clients. I see myself as successful when my clients arrive at a level of honest and healthy self-determination in their lives.

I work systemically, paying attention not only my clients' difficulties as they are presented but also the contexts and relationships in which these difficulties exist. Where necessary, I will collaborate with clinicians at Rekindle Centre for Systemic Therapy and also other health providers of good repute to help clients work through their difficulties.

I am the founder and clinical director of Rekindle Centre for Systemic Therapy in Malaysia, where I also practice as a clinician. To learn more about me, please continue to read below and also visit Rekindle's website (below my profile picture). Please note that your email to me via Good Therapy will go to our clinic coordinator at Rekindle.

More Info About My Practice

My rates begin at RM700-RM800 for the initial intake assessment and decrease as the number of sessions progress. If you have behavioral health insurance, please check with your respective insurance companies regarding reimbursement for services rendered by a Minnesota-licensed Marriage and Family Therapist.

I am open to traveling out of town and overseas to work with clients on intensive consultation/training contracts (e.g. 3-day), especially for business-owning families or executive leaders and their teams. My consultation/training and travelling fees are quoted separately from my clinical rates.

Please note that my clinical hours are restricted as I also spend time supervising therapists, training students, and conducting academic and clinical research. However, I believe that when I help a leader move towards better functioning in life, the effect is multiplied across his or her spheres of influence. Thus I will prioritise appointments for clients who hold leadership positions and influence in the community. If you fit this profile and find it difficult to secure an appointment with me, kindly inform Rekindle's clinic coordinator that you would like to speak with me personally.

Specific Issue(s) I'm Skilled at Helping With

While I am open to seeing people from all backgrounds, I have specific expertise working with leaders and their families, for example, business-owning families, C-suite executives, and non-profit organisational leaders. I also have expertise working with expat couples and families.

I specialize in issues related to relationship conflict, couple communication, marital infidelity, stress & anger management, parenting difficulties, performance anxieties, low self-esteem, childhood abuse, addictions, trauma, and sexual compulsivity. As a USA-licensed mental health professional, I am trained (and licensed) to assess and diagnose psychopathology.

I have over two decades of leadership experience in business, non-profit, and academic settings. I am very comfortable working with high-level executives and organisational leaders in their 40s and beyond who may need some guidance through the middle years of life. The topics we cover typically involve issues concerning career, marriage, family, as well as self-identity and purpose in the second-half of life. I regularly provide insight-oriented guidance as well as behaviour-change coaching. For such clients, the work is typically aimed towards personal development and performance enhancement rather than remedial psychotherapy.

My Guiding Ethical Principles

I am licensed as a Marriage and Family Therapist (license #2053) by the state of Minnesota, USA, and am certified under the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT) as a Clinical Fellow and an Approved Clinical Supervisor. I adhere to the ethical standards of the Minnesota Board of MFT as well as the AAMFT to ensure that you will receive the best care possible.

Given that mental health is not highly regulated in Malaysia, it is important for clients receiving mental health services to check on the background of the provider. At REKINDLE, our clinical team and I are glad to answer any questions you may have about our training and background before you engage with us for service. We will gladly refer you to the various bodies under which we are credentialed.

The Duration and Frequency of Therapy

I tend to work in the format of short-term goal-oriented therapy (8-12 sessions). I begin with an initial intake assessment after which I will give clients feedback and recommendations. Should they decide to enter into therapy with me after the intake, I will collaborate with them on setting the goals for therapy, identify the modality of treatment intervention, and evaluate the progress of therapy over a specified number of sessions (e.g. 4-6 sessions). If clients do not appear to be improving after some time (e.g. 6-8 sessions), I will re-evaluate the intervention or refer them for further help with other professionals.

Most of my clients meet their goals and conclude therapy within 6-8 sessions. Some may return at a later stage when new difficulties arise. Some clients choose to work with me for longer-term therapy or coaching. In all cases, I emphasise working towards clearly targeted treatment goals.
