My Approach to Helping

My philosophy of helping people is based on respect. I understand that my role is a helper/facilitator. I am highly trained and have had many years of experience, but I always approach the interaction as not giving direction or advice but of facilitating the individual to find their own answers (the only kind that have true meaning). Because of my knowledge and experience I will often brainstorm ideas with clients, again leaving decisions to them. My approach a combination of self psychology, an emapathic approact to psychotheray, and trauma work. Trauma comes in all forms, from the major traumas such as war experiences, rape, etc., to the everyday experiences of physical and emotional abuse, school problems, social difficuties, the loss of a loved one, and disability. Resolving these memories leads people to feel so much better about themselves and find in themselves new ideas, abilities and capapcities for healthy relationships.
