My Approach to Helping
Many people struggle to make sense of the anger, anxiety, frustration, and sadness they experience in life, and have forgotten what it feels like to be happy and in control. Together, we'll explore the emotion & meaning behind the way you are feeling and behaving. Sometimes, taking a closer look at what fuels our anger and frustration can shed light upon the anxiety, sadness, and despair we feel. I provide play therapy for children as young as 6 years of age. I also work with children younger than 6, but the focus is on family interactions between the child and parent(s) during their play in family therapy sessions. I offer traditional "talk" therapy with teens and adults. I'm solution-oriented in my approach, working collaboratively with you to develop a treatment plan that is based upon your unique goals and circumstances. Using a variety of interventions & techniques, we'll work together to reach your personal goals for therapy. Whether you're ready to change up some old patterns, learn some new ways for coping, or just needing to dust off some emotional cobwebs, I welcome the opportunity to work with you.
More Info About My Practice
I'm a Certified Anger Resolution Therapist. It's hard work, but very worth it. I love seeing the change transformation that occurs in this work. I'm also certified as a Parent Coordinator, working with high conflict divorce situations within the family law system. While quite different from "therapy" it is a wonderful opportunity for me to use my clinical skills with families who might otherwise get caught up in the back-and-forth court battle and high legal fees associated with the traditional approach to divorce. As a neutral party, I have the opportunity to objectively help families peacefully and lovingly collaborate together about what's in the best interest of their children. Unlike the static process of mediation, my work is ongoing with the ex-husbands and wives, who have thoughtfully set aside their differences in order to work out what's best for their children as co-parents. I've been very happily married for over 20 years and have 5 awesome children. We've lived in the DFW area for 18 of those happy years. Prior to becoming a Family Therapist, I worked for over 25 years in the non-profit sector with at risk families who were experiencing underemployment, child abuse & neglect, and homelessness. I decided to shift gears toward therapy, so that I could effect more positive change in the lives of families: one person, one family at a time.
