My Approach to Helping

I see psychotherapy as a partnership which focuses on each person's individual goals. Beginning with empathic listening, I join with a client to explore and collaborate in seeking a solution and/or greater understanding of the situation that led that person to seek counseling. With 25 years experience, I have a variety of resources: problem-solving therapy, psychodynamic therapy, family theory, cognitive-behavioral techniques, and addiction treatment. Some parts of the therapeutic journey may be difficult, some may be exciting or surprising. My respectful, warm, and honest presence makes this exploration possible when it otherwise might not have occurred.

More Info About My Practice

**NEW GROUP: CONQUERING CODEPENDENCE** *Have you noticed that the opinions of others are more important to you than your own? *Are you uncomfortable expressing your true feelings to significant others? *Do you feel a burdensome sense of responsibility for the actions of others? *Are you involved with someone who has alcohol and/or drug problems? Someone who belittles or physically harms you? A new psycho-educational & supportive group is beginning soon for adults who find themselves answering "yes" to the above questions. This group will be facilitated by Carol R Cann, MA, LCPC, CADC, a psychotherapist and alcohol/drug counselor with over 25 years experience in group settings. This group will be limited to six members, will be closed (no new members after it begins) and continue for 6 weeks, meeting on Saturday mornings for 90 minutes per session. Mutual confidentiality (what is said in the room, stays in the room) is required of all group members. We will meet in my Evanston office (convenient to the expressway and with a large free parking lot); the charge will be $30 per person per week. Please contact me by email (above) for further details; I will be happy to call you back, answer questions, and discuss the group in more detail.
