My Approach to Helping
I view therapy as a way of helping people cultivate genuine compassion for themselves. My focus balances an exploration of the client's past and present with an eye to self-understanding and an increased flexibility in responding to life and making sought after changes.

More Info About My Practice
I am an intern at West Valley Counseling Center in Tarzana. Having been a meditation practioner for some time before becoming a therapist, I often incorporate mindfulness into my work. I have an open, ongoing Thurs evening (7-8:15p) group for using mindfulness to work with anxiety. I am putting together a group for Social Anxiety and plan to soon run a group at West Valley Counseling that works with addressing the psychological needs of spiritual practioners, particularly those with a daily contemplative practice.

How Psychotherapy Can Help

When find ourselves at a place where life feels off, when we are harsh with ourselves, disappointed, judgmental, we may be inclined to see this as a personal failing. And we treat ourselves as if we have failed. I believe that it is at this point that therapy really makes a difference. This is when it is most important to cultivate an authentic, genuine compassion for ourselves. Cultivating genuine compassion means understanding on a deeply felt level how we got to be who we are. It means considering the possibility that we begin working towards truly accepting ourselves rather than fixing ourselves. In doing so we come to appreciate who we are and develop curiosity about our lives – both the significance of our past and the opportunities the future holds. There is a natural state of health and sanity at our core. Therapy is about removing our various blocks, conscious and unconscious, and allowing that natural state to move us towards wholeness. This is not an easy task. But it is a deeply rewarding one.
