Residential Therapy is offered for a myriad of issues including, but not limited to, trauma, substance abuse, eating disorders, and many other mental health related issues. Residential and retreat based therapy are made available to both adults and children and are sometimes considered a “higher level of care” than individual, family, and sometimes group therapy. Therapists may find that their clients really can benefit from stepping away from the “system” that they live in, and doing their therapeutic work away from the home environment.
Residential and Retreat therapies are based on this principal. They offer intensive therapeutic services in settings that involve you staying somewhere else for the duration of your therapy.
Sometimes, those who attend Residential or Retreat based programs have done so because they and their therapist know that they need a more intensive format. Usually, the intention is to allow you to focus, entirely, on your therapeutic work.
Residential and Retreat Therapy programs are offered all over the United States and the rest of the world. To attend one of these programs often means that you will have some degree of initial travel, as you may not be staying in your home area.
As part of your Residential Therapy, you may have any combination of therapeutic modalities made available to you. It is not uncommon to have a combination of individual and group therapy, perhaps even supplemented by family weekends, when family members visit.
In Retreat Therapy, your family may also involved in some of, or the entire retreat. Retreat based therapy can also offer individual, couples, or family work. On the whole, Retreat based therapy also works in a more intensive and focused format.
In addition, Residential and Retreat therapy may offer adjunctive “experiential” therapeutic activities such as Equestrian Therapy, Physical Exercise, Ropes Courses, Hiking or treatments such as Massage Therapy or Energy Work. If the Residential facility is identified as a hospital, it is also possible that medical staff will be made available. Again, know that every Residential and Retreat therapy offers a unique approach.
