About Brentwood

Brentwood is a city in Williamson County, Tennessee. It has a land area of 41 square miles and an average rainfall of 48 inches a year. The city was incorporated in 1969. 

Brentwood has 42,500 inhabitants. From 2010 to 2016, the number of residents increased by 15%. The racial composition of the population is 85% white, 6% Asian, 3% black, and 3% Hispanic. More than 1,600 military veterans live in Brentwood.

Over 9% of the city population speaks a foreign language at home. The most common foreign languages in Brentwood are Spanish and Chinese. Seventy-one percent of residents who are over age 25 have earned a bachelor’s degree.

Brentwood is one of the wealthiest cities in America. It is home to many athletes and country music stars. The median household income is $148,300, roughly three times the state average. Ninety-two percent of families own their home. Less than 3% of Brentwood residents live below the poverty line.

Mental Health in Brentwood

Suicide is an issue in Williamson County and the state of Tennessee. In 2016, the suicide rate in Williamson County was 9.6 per 100,000 residents. That same year, 1,110 state residents committed suicide—a 4% increase from 2015.

Williamson County has established several resources for residents who have lost a loved one to suicide or who want to be more involved with suicide prevention. These resources include survivor outreach programs and children’s services. The city of Brentwood hosts youth groups for teen survivors.
