My Approach to Helping

You've begun the process of finding support for a loved one or yourself, and now must choose which therapist will help you begin the healing process. There are many qualified clinicians, so making the choice can be daunting. You need not only to work with a credentialed therapist, but also one from whom you feel empathetic warmth and compassionate care. I believe therapists need more than a degree and a license to help their clients. One size does not fit all, and each client faces different challenges and has different needs.

For some clients, I'm the one who finally listens without judgment, helping them unravel feelings of shame from faulty childhood criticisms, while enabling them to replace these feelings with a realistic and constructive self-assessment. For other clients, I help confront the rationalizations and denial that cause people to get stuck in negative patterns. For all of my clients, I employ great interest, care, and commitment to helping them feel, think, and live better because I don't know another way to be a therapist.

I bring 26 years of experience to my work with children, families, couples, and individuals. I help my clients recover a sense of hope by working from their inherent strengths. I aid my clients in using new skills to navigate interpersonal, emotional, and behavioral difficulties. My practice is a family practice, specializing in teen and child therapy, but I work with couples and adults every day. Feel free to contact me to discuss your concerns so we can begin developing a support plan to meet your needs.

My View on the Purpose of Psychotherapy

I see therapy as a way to get back on track or explore an issue that has derailed you personally or professionally. Therapy is an exploration into the problem at hand, and the best way to resolve it. In addition, therapy is an opportunity to develop new awareness about our problems, where they came from, and what we can do next time we have a similar problem so that it does not derail us in the future. My approach is to teach and empower people so that they have the skills and tools in place to resolve future challenges.I believe therapy is a hopeful and growth oriented process that can help to empower and enlighten it's participants.

What I Love about Being a Psychotherapist

I feel very privileged to be of service to others for a career. I take great personal pride in my ability to help another when they are struggling or need guidance. I have a great source of empathy for my clients as well as faith in their strengths to get them through difficult times. Sometimes acknowledging their strengths and having faith in themselves becomes a big source of healing. This is one of the gifts in being a therapist as you are able to help people learn and see new positive traits in themselves that they did not see before. I can't think of another career I would want to do more than work with people and help them achieve and grow.
