My Approach to Helping

Pronouns: she they

If you are looking for a queer, trauma informed therapist, you have made it to the right place! You are a self aware, typically emotionally independent person who is reaching out to talk to someone who can understand the hardships you’ve experienced as a queer person. Your hardships have contributed to your patterns of chronic critical self talk, perfectionism, people pleasing, overanalyzing, or over-using distraction in your life. This is all telling me one thing- you are doing your absolute best to make it through your experience, and it may look to others like you’re fine. But you’ve been mostly, if not entirely, keeping to yourself that you are still in pain. You may be labeling yourself as broken, over-sensitive, or having self critical moments where you ask yourself “what is wrong with me?”. You’re trying so hard but having trouble cutting yourself any slack, and just don’t want to live like this anymore.

You’re ready to dive into deeper self exploration, and looking for some support along the way. With the guidance of a therapist, you would like to explore the specifics of your story to get to the root as to why your mental health is the way it is, and figure out what you uniquely need in order to move out of old distressing patterns and into new paths of wellbeing. With this work, you’ll become your own greatest ally, start to better advocate for your needs, and piece by piece build a life that is more affirmative to you.

Almost my entire practice is dedicated to helping members of the LGBTQIA+ community find self compassion, understand the roots of their mental health experiences, and finally move towards empowerment. If you are curious if I would be a good match for you too, feel free to head to my website gnecenter.com to learn more about my practice. If you like what you see, we can schedule a free 15 minute phone call to chat about what you need. I’m looking forward to meeting you and starting this journey together!

On the Fence About Going to Therapy?

I hear you. It can be very overwhelming to reach out for support, especially when we are used to trying to take care of things on our own. There is a part of you that wants to be supported and to heal, otherwise you wouldn't be reading this right now. You deserve your space to be seen, heard, and supported. Each session is paid for individually, with no obligation to continue if you decide I am not your right fit. I'd like to support you in getting what you need, whether it is under my care or with someone else!

My View on the Nature of 'Disorders'

In some ways, our society is so sick that we have decided to call messages from our mind and body "symptoms". This has a negative connotation and fuels stigma and self judgment, as if your mind and body aren't supposed to communicate with you.

If your mind and body are experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, pain, or something else our society jumps to calling pathological, take a break for a minute. These mind and body experiences do not come from nowhere, they are a signal for an unmet need.

Your anxiety may be a sign you need help.

Your depression may be a sign you need more meaningful connection in your life.

Your pain may be a sign that your body isn't being used in a way that works for it.

Your trauma may be a sign you still need help recovering.

Instead of judging or pathologizing your experiences, start asking yourself what you need. And if you need help figuring that out, reach out for support.

Nothing is wrong with you. You are just receiving signals as to what needs attention.
