More Info About My Practice
For Children: Play therapy is a form of therapy that was developed to engage and treat children. The language of younger children is play. In play, the limitations of time and space do not apply. This medium is very fluid and allows for a very intense and rapid engagement. Play is very wonderful because you can explore an exceedingly difficult issue in one moment and in the next you can begin the process of healing the wound opened in the exploration. There are many different mediums utilized in play therapy ranging from sand tray to puppets. I like to utilize puppets because I can have a dialogue with two puppets while the child listens and then gauge the child through the puppet. The puppet provides a veil to protect the child from being overwhelmed by the intense feelings that are explored.
For Adolescents and Young Adults: I create a relationship in which we can explore very deep and hidden issues in a space that is safe and facilitates creativity and balance. Different strategies are employed depending on the age. For adolescents and young adults, it is most important to relate to them and speak their language. Again, a lighter approach is generally more helpful to building an enduring relationship.
