My Approach to Helping
I understand that it is feels vulnerable to look for help! But, making this first step, shows your strength and desire to overcome your present discomfort. My goal for every session is to help you make noticeable progress toward the changes that you want and deserve. Why live with pain when there is a way that you can overcome it!! You deserve to feel better about yourself, your life, and your relationships.
My role as your therapist is to help guide you in finding the root of your suffering and to understand the reasons the problem(s) have continued to exist in your life. Sometimes, we develop ways of avoiding pain and suffering, which can cause even more symptoms that get in the way of living the life we desire. I provide a safe and empathetic environment to allow you to explore and grow. I am excited to help my clients find healthy solutions.
More Info About My Practice
I focus mainly on how the problem is currently affecting my clients, while at the same time looking at the problem's history. Thus we discuss the past, but the focus of the work is on the present and the future in order to achieve change. I use a variety of therapeutic approaches depending upon my client's needs. For example, I use Mind-Body Connection and Neurobiology approaches to therapy because I have seen that our emotional health will affect our physical health and well-being, causing our bodies to experience pain and suffering. Furthermore, the longer we delay taking care of our problems, the bigger they become. This is the reason I enjoy offering premarital counseling. I prefer to help couples find healthy ways to navigate their relationship rather than wait until they are angry and stuck in negative cycles of blame and resentment.
Importance of the Client-Therapist Alliance
I work with individuals from teens to the elderly, either alone or as a couple/family units, who are experiencing problems such as anxiety, relationship issues, depression, life transitions, anger, cross-cultural/interfaith conflicts, grief and loss, trauma, LGBT challenges, and pre-marital conflict.
As an Iranian-American, I have a particular interest in working with all cultures as they experience their own family dynamics of assimilation through each generation, yet maintaining their cultural identity. I am also able to facilitate therapy in Farsi.
