My Approach to Helping
If you or someone in your family are going through some challenges, we can work together to help you gain insight and guide you through positive changes. A therapeutic relationship focus on gaining a better understanding of specific difficulties, exploring and increasing helpful strategies, and utilizing personal strengths that can help bring satisfaction and fulfillment to your life or that of your family. My approach is to provide a framework for thinking about these struggles that you are experiencing and exploring changes that may be helpful. Together we build a toolbox of strategies that alleviate the challenges you are facing so that you can go on and enjoy your life.
In my practice, I use mostly cognitive behavioral therapies because these have shown in scholarly research to be most effective in treating a number of conditions. These therapies focuses on examining our thinking, our values, increasing awareness of the changes taking place in our body, appropriately labeling our emotions, and implementing new behaviors. It is also a very cost-effective approach because it allows you to work through your problems fairly quickly and directly so that you don't have to be in therapy for years. Depending on the presenting challenges, most individuals see me for 8 to 20 weeks!
However, my approach is flexible and tailored to your unique needs at any given time. I have art supplies, a sand tray, games, etc. If you have a furry friend that you want to bring in, you can! If the office feels to formal, we can walk and talk by the bay. My goal is to understand what it is like to be in your "shoes" and to offer a safe and comfortable way to explore this with you.
