Traditional theories in couples counseling and marital and family therapy overlook the unique dynamics of the stepfamily unit, with the application of such theories to a stepfamily being detrimental. What makes me different is that I SPECIALIZE IN STEPFAMILIES.
I have advanced clinical training through the National Stepfamily Resource Center and The Stepfamily Foundation. I've been featured nationally in both broadcast and print media, and am a contributing writer for StepMom Magazine. Through providing education and research-based interventions, my mission is to help these relationships become stronger and thrive. Telephone/Internet (email and video) services available; Distance Stepfamily/Stepmom/Stepdad Coaching services also available.

Specific Issue(s) I'm Skilled at Helping With
I specialize in stepfamilies from both perspectives: The first being the unique challenges that stepparents (stepmoms and stepdads) face in their role; and second, what biological parents struggle with when another adult is inserted into the equation. As both a stepmother and biological mother, I have an 'insider's' understanding of the dynamics which comprise the stepfamily. During my graduate studies, I noticed that traditional counseling theories in marital and family therapy mostly overlooked the uniqueness of the stepfamily unit.
Realizing that a gap existed between what academic programs were teaching and the real life experiences of more than half of U.S. homes living in stepfamilies, I founded Success for Steps® - a resource dedicated to those living 'in step'.
