Traditional theories in couples counseling and marital and family therapy overlook the unique dynamics of the stepfamily unit, with the application of such theories to a stepfamily being detrimental. What makes me different is that I SPECIALIZE IN STEPFAMILIES.

I am a Master Stepfamily Coach, Licensed Mental Health Counselor, a National Certified Counselor, and a Distance Credentialed Counselor. I also have advanced clinical training for working with stepfamilies through the National Stepfamily Resource Center.

I specialize in stepfamilies from both perspectives: The first being the unique challenges that stepparents (stepmoms and stepdads) face in their role; and second, what biological parents struggle with when another adult is inserted into the equation. As both a stepmother and biological mother, I have an 'insider's' understanding of the dynamics which comprise the stepfamily. During my graduate studies, I noticed that traditional counseling theories in marital and family therapy mostly overlooked the uniqueness of the stepfamily unit.
Realizing that a gap existed between what academic programs were teaching and the real life experiences of more than half of U.S. homes living in stepfamilies, I founded Success for Steps? - a resource dedicated to those living 'in step'.
