My Approach to Helping
Growing up, I was always on stage, displaying my love for the arts through performance. As I grew into adulthood, I realized I had been performing off the stage, too. Through my own counseling, I began to learn that this performance was in the form of denying my own needs, being afraid to take up space and fearing asking for help. Counseling taught me how to integrate all of the parts of myself that make me who I am, including the parts that might seem less appealing.
I am skilled at helping you get excited about yourself and the work because *I* am excited about you and the work. I am authentic and offer goofiness and cuss words without the stuffiness of performative professionalism. I am Teacher and Student as therapy is a reciprocal process. I learn from you, too. Your lived experience matters and is important.
I work from a therapeutic orientation focused on human agency, choice, the power of the present moment, body sensations, emotions, lived experience and the client as expert on their self. These ideas are contained in the clinical names for my approach, including DBT, CBT, Mindfulness and Motivational Interviewing.
I impart what I can about being whole, well and human. I am a fierce advocate for my clients. Advocating with and for the person in front of me, the person in their environment, and each level and intersection there from outward and upward. Never just a number, never just a client. I would be honored to work with you!
In my spare time, I enjoy having coffee with friends, watching Netflix, cuddling or adventuring with my dog and singing show tunes at the top of my lungs.
