My Approach to Helping
In a collaborative and judgement-free space, I work with clients to grow to understand themselves in new ways and rediscover who they are, separate from the problems that have felt overwhelming, caused suffering, or have held them back. I use an integrative Narrative therapy approach, collaborating with my clients in curiosity and reflection to find comfort, hope, opportunity, and growth.
I work with teens, adults (male, female, nonbinary), couples, and families for in-person therapy or teletherapy via Zoom!
My View on the Nature of 'Disorders'
In some cases, diagnoses can make a person feel seen or help them to finally understand why they are the way they are. I believe that outside of these specific cases, diagnoses and mental health disorders can be dangerous and limiting labels that do not fully consider the clients? history, social identity, and unique experience of symptoms. Unless my client discusses the beneficial nature of their mental health diagnosis, I strive to view my clients from a non-pathologizing, response based lens. In other words, I view you as a human who has developed coping strategies, both helpful and unhelpful, in response to the experiences you have encountered in life. I believe that certain coping strategies that used to serve you might now be harming you, but I do not think that automatically means you have a mental health disorder.
