My Approach to Helping
If you're feeling stressed out, overwhelmed, or stuck, I'm your girl. Can you imagine what life could be like without constantly worrying and putting this much pressure on yourself?
As a Licensed Professional Counselor, I specialize in helping adults and older teens (high school age and up) work through their struggles with eating disorders, disordered eating (e.g. overeating, rigidextreme with "healthy" eating, stressingfeeling guilty about foodexercise choices, etc.), body image issues, anxiety, and depression. I also provide Christian counseling upon request.
Most of my clients are high-achievers who are very successful in their careersin school, but may have trouble shutting their brains off, and tend to be really hard on themselves. Through therapy, I help people kick their rigid, perfectionistic ways to the curb and live a life of more balance, freedom, and light-heartedness.
More Info About My Practice
I work hard to create a calm and comfortable atmosphere, so your sessions feel like you're grabbing coffee with a friend versus like you're being "treated" for a "disorder" by a therapist. I work with your strengths to empower you to live the kind of life you'd ultimately want if your current struggle weren't holding you back. I believe therapy should always ultimately be refreshing, encouraging, and relieving, so even though we may chat about some deep stuff together, my hope is that you'll always leave my office feeling way better than when you first walked in.
What I Love about Being a Psychotherapist
I consider it a great privilege to get to help people get "unstuck" and finally start living the lives they truly want. Not only do I get to meet some of the coolest people around, but I also get to help them realize just how cool they really are, and empower them to take the steps necessary to gain freedom, peace, and joy in their lives. I am so passionate about what I do that it genuinely doesn't feel like "work" to me!
On the Fence About Going to Therapy?
Honestly, I don't know how anyone could NOT feel nervous about the idea of starting counseling. You can't deny that it takes guts to put yourself out there and share what you're going through with a complete stranger. Luckily, not all strangers are the same! I often say that finding a good counselor is like dating -- it may take some searching around until you find someone you hit it off with, but once you do, it's so worth having that support in your life.
If you're ready for some relief, but are still on the fence about this whole counseling thing, feel free to call me or email me and we can chat about what you're going through and how I could help!
