My Approach to Helping
I believe that most relationships can be saved. My job is to help identify the things that aren't working in the relationship, determine what needs to change, and offer tools and suggestions to help you make changes that put the relationship on the right track. Finding a therapist with whom you have chemistry and one who has experience helping with the goals you have are the main keys to success in therapy.
More Info About My Practice
Approximately 75-80% of what I do is focused on couples and relationship work. I offer flexible scheduling options and have session times available several evenings a week. I also offer distance sessions (i.e. phone, video) for when you can't make it in to the office. I believe that sessions should be able to be scheduled promptly, easy to reschedule, and that a direct line of communication (phone, email, and texting) is essential.
Had a Negative Therapy Experience?
It happens for more often than you might think, and it may have been the fault of chemistry. A therapist can have all the training and experience in the world, but if the chemistry isn't there, it's just not going to feel right. You might be surprised how much "shopping around" it can take to find someone that's just right for you. But you should never feel bad about doing this. Finding the right therapist is essential to your reaching your goals, which is what this is all about, isn't it? I highly recommend an in-person consultation with any therapist you are considering. This gives you the opportunity to gauge how you feel about them before you ever start to really open up.
The Duration and Frequency of Therapy
My focus is on helping people get what they need as quickly and efficiently as possible and saying goodbye as they go on to live a happy life. My experience has been that weekly sessions, at least for the first four to six weeks, is the most efficient way to get things moving in the right direction. After that, we take a look at what goals have been achieved and what is left to do, and decide how to proceed from there. Many people will schedule a few regular check-ins two to three weeks out for a little while. Clients know that they can always return for a little refresher anytime they need one.
