My Approach to Helping

Take the first step towards healing.

Counselling is an essential part of wellness. Our work together will help you feel grounded.
I care deeply about my clients and my practice is rooted in the desire to support, empower, and educate you so that you can feel better and be your best self. I believe you are capable and resilient, and that together we can develop skills to create change. The name of my business is Open Heart Counselling, and this comes from the idea of having an open heart, letting love and feelings flow in and out of our hearts without judgment.
Whatever you are feeling is OK.

I use a client-centred approach that allows us to work collaboratively on achieving your goals. I have experience working with family dynamics, and non-monogamous relationships. I work with you to unpack things that may be holding you back, or preventing you from being your authentic self. Together we will examine patterns and experiences to understand better how they affect you today. I want to help you have more understanding, awareness, and ability to cope.

My Therapy Focus

I use a broad range of therapeutic modalities, including CBT, DBT, client-centred, emotion-focused, mindfulness, existential and narrative therapies. I bring focus to systems of oppression and how they impact us. Drawing a lot from cognitive behavioural therapy, I focus on how we see and understand ourselves within the context of society and within our family dynamics. I like to explore how all of these pressures have shaped us.
I draw attention to how we use self-talk, what we say to ourselves, and why. I like to unpack the language we use on ourselves and see how it compares to how we speak to other people. Often, the way we speak to ourselves reveals deeper thoughts and beliefs that we have about ourselves. This is the essence of the work we will do together. What untruth do you believe about yourself? These untruths are called negative cognitions, and they often hold us back, make us feel terribly, and are connected to our triggers. Together we can unpack these untruths, unlearn them, and replace them with a new truth.
