My Approach to Helping
When you're feeling anxious, depressed, or stuck, you may also be at the edge of something, a place between stages, in life or relationships. My aim is to offer you a safe and open place to explore these passages... wherever you are, wherever you've been, and wherever you're going. I work to support you in a kind, nonjudgmental space to attend to all the parts of you that you want to explore.
While I work with a wide range of issues in my work with individuals, I specialize in helping those who are experiencing anxiety or difficult situations in their lives, as well as those who have a recurring sense they should be doing things differently somehow.
More Info About My Practice
We typically meet for fifty-minute sessions on a weekly basis. Session length and frequency can be increased, and this is up to you.
Specific Issue(s) I'm Skilled at Helping With
*Women Across the Lifespan: young women coming into their adult selves; women experiencing changes in their bodies and moods in mid-life; aging women reflecting on a life lived so far and looking to the life ahead of them.
*Couples & Families: I rely primarily on Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), a research-based approach to strengthening relationships and improving connection. I also draw on Nonviolent Communication (NVC) to help couples and families learn to fight fairly and minimize conflict, and on forgiveness practices to overcome rifts and ruptures in relationships.
*Co-Parenting Counseling: for separated couples with children who want to develop healthy co-parenting "rules of the road," this counseling seeks to minimize the negative effects of separation on children.
*Second Marriages & Step-Families: supporting blended families adapt to change and create a new constellation together.
*Meditators: I offer psychotherapy for meditators seeking more individual and psychological exploration. I believe therapy combined with a meditation practice can lead to greater insights both on and off the cushion, and love to support folks on this path.
My View on the Purpose of Psychotherapy
Sometimes just being a human can be hard. Our relationships, both personal and professional, can be very complex. The myriad changes we go through across the lifespan are also complex, with each stage of life bringing its own set of distinct challenges. Urgent matters, transitions, and trying to change old habits that no longer serve can be daunting to navigate alone. In my view, psychotherapy is about not being alone in all this complexity. It's about sitting with another to explore your own unique experience of life and to get help working through your unique challenges. My intention as a psychotherapist is to help you discover what you need and want in your life right now and to accompany and assist you getting there.
