My Approach to Helping
Hi, I'm Josh Kaplan, a licensed therapist specializing in the treatment of Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) and Anxiety Disorders.
Are you suffering from intrusive thoughts, images, or urges? Stuck in a cycle of anxiety, uncertainty, and doubt? Do you feel like you can't stop ruminating about the past or future? Or do you find yourself repeating endless physical or mental behaviors in an attempt to reduce anxiety? If so, you might be suffering from Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder or another diagnosable anxiety disorder. These symptoms can be extremely distressing and interfere with various areas of daily functioning. Thankfully these disorders are treatable with evidence-based therapies including Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT).
I started CBT 4 Anxiety with a clear mission: to provide effective, evidence-based online treatment for OCD and anxiety. With over 10 years of specialization and extensive training, my approach is anchored in the most trusted and scientifically validated methods, including Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). I’ll guide you through the process every step of the way, teaching you the skills to overcome fear and gain long-term mastery over your anxiety. My goal is to teach you to become your own anxiety specialist, ensuring you have the confidence and skills for long-term relief.
More Info About My Practice
As a specialist, I have spent the last 10+ years studying and treating a select set of disorders including Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD), Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD), Panic Disorder, Social Anxiety, and Phobias. This specialization sets me apart from more general therapists who often treat a broad range of disorders but may not possess the same depth of knowledge and expertise in any one area. Think of it like the distinction between a primary care physician and an orthopedic specialist. While your primary doctor is skilled in addressing a wide range of health concerns, an orthopedic specialist has dedicated years to mastering the musculoskeletal system. My specialization ensures you receive care that is not just competent, but exceptionally attuned to the nuances of your specific symptoms.
Importance of the Client-Therapist Alliance
Without a strong foundational relationship of mutual trust and respect, it's unlikely any therapy is going to be effective. I value each individual client as a unique person, with their own interpretation of themselves and the world around them. I understand that getting help for OCD and Anxiety can be scary and difficult. I will meet you where you're at in your journey and we will go step by step from there.
The Duration and Frequency of Therapy
Thankfully there is an evidence-based treatment for OCD and Anxiety. Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) and CBT are considered to be the gold standard in treatment. ERP is a very specialized form of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) that focuses on the gradual systematic exposure to OCD triggers and the reduction and prevention of ongoing compulsions. This is all done under the guidance of a trained OCD therapist. ERP is extremely effective with success rates of >75%. Even better, ERP tends to work quickly, with most individuals requiring only 10-20 sessions. Exposure in combination with CBT is used for all other anxiety disorders with an equally impressive success rate.
