My Approach to Helping
As an adult and adolescent therapist, I help clients who are feeling stuck or disconnected develop a deeper understanding of themselves in order to produce healthy change. My clients often come to therapy to address concerns such as anxiety, depression, mood instability, anger, or addictive behaviors. Many have also experienced hurt or loss in their relationships which affect their confidence, trust, or sense of control.
I anticipate that clients start therapy with a mix of hope that things will improve and some doubts or concerns about the process. I meet this with an approach that is warm, thoughtful, and genuine but also pragmatic and straightforward. We can and should talk about your reservations or discomfort and doing so often makes it easier to disclose the concerns that are impacting your life.
I use an approach that is well suited for both short-term counseling work as well as more in-depth personal exploration. I adapt my approach to meet your specific needs and unique situation. I am committed to helping you work through your concerns in a way that respects you as a person and your values. My clients have remarked that my approach allows them to figure out what they need and how to make progress on their goals without being overly prescriptive.
I am happy to work collaboratively with other doctors, providers, or school personal at your request and with your consent.
More Info About My Practice
The practice is located downtown near Millennium Park and easily accessible from Lake and Randolph/Wabash 'L' stations. Accessible to Metra and street parking on Stetson Ave.
The office is private and comfortable with a view of the Tribune Building, John Hancock Center, and Lake Michigan.
I am an in-network provider for Blue Cross Blue Shield and Medicare. If you have another insurance, my services are typically covered under out-of-network benefits. I am happy to assist you in checking your benefits and filing initial claims. If you have questions about using out-of-network benefits I would happy to discuss them over the phone prior to making an appointment. I am also happy to work with you if you prefer not use your insurance benefits
My fee is competitive for a psychologist in Chicago. Please feel free to call or email to discuss fee and payment procedures. I accept cash, check, Visa, Mastercard, ACH Transfer, and Mobile Bank transfer.
My services are considered a qualifying medical expense and therefore can be paid using a health savings account or medical flex funds.

* Anxiety and Avoidance: Anxiety and avoidance are often difficult to work through and can take many different forms depending on individual life experiences. If you are not getting what you want out of work, life, or relationships I can help you make a change.
*Alcohol and Substances: I can help if you are repetitively engaging in substance or alcohol use despite growing avoidance, consequences, or negative outcomes.
*Excessive Technology: I assist clients who are struggling to limit their use of the internet, video games, and other forms of online media. I can also be helpful if you are not certain whether your use or your child's use is becoming problematic.
Young Adults: Discovering who you are while facing the pressure to attend a good college, distinguish yourself in your career, and be successful produces a tremendous amount of stress.
*Men: I enjoy working with men on concerns related to mood, relationships, sex/intimacy, and balancing life roles. Men also face unique pressures related to how they are expected to respond to emotional pain and express feelings.
*Conflict, loss, hurt, or abuse in relationships: These concerns can take many forms but the emotional wounds they create can affect or nervous systems, mood, trust of others, and ability to feel connected to reality.
*Internal Processors/Emotional Reserved: Those who tend to process more internally can feel misunderstood or even out of place in our fast paced and socially demanding world. I appreciate the challenges it can present but also the strength and insights available to people who think deeply.
*Professionals in technical, high stress, and demanding careers: If the culture of your work place is one of high demands, tight deadlines, and an expectation to sacrifice other parts of your life it can have a tremendous effect on your well being.
*Older Adults: mental health is often overlooked or misunderstood in older adults. Anxiety, depression, social isolation, unsatisfying relationships, and difficulty enjoying life are common. They often improve when met with careful attention in therapy.
