My Approach to Helping
Sonny Carroll’s poem Empowered Woman describes the empowered woman as one who moves through the world with confidence and grace, “speaking her truth, strong” and with a generous heart. Characteristic traits Geannee Armant embodies. A mother, grandmother, retired veteran, and compassionate counselor committed to helping others. Geannee has lived a life caring for others and fighting for others. Upon returning from the U.S. Army after 24 years of service, she earned a Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. She is passionate about helping others, especially veterans, women and children do better and feel better by supporting clients to identify attainable goals and systematically work toward them. Geannee practices from a Cognitive Behavioral theoretical (CBT) framework. This perspective helps individuals examine how thoughts and feeling impact one’s behaviors and actions. Cognitive Behavioral therapy is a highly effective treatment approach because clients learn to examine maladaptive thoughts/feelings and reframe them so they can implement more positive behaviors and actions.
Geannee is currently a board approved Provisional Licensed Professional Counselor (PLPC) in the state of Louisiana and presently in training to become a Registered Play Therapist (RPT). She is currently employed at DuraCARE Counseling and accepting new clients. Geannee’s hourly rate is $60-$120 (sliding scale) per session.
