My Approach to Helping

I provide individual counseling and psychotherapy for adults from all walks of life. My approach is informed by modern psychoanalysis which tells us emotional and behavioral challenges often stem from wounds in our past, and they manifest in our lives through distressing symptoms and patterns of painful experience. When left unattended, these patterns will continue to surface again and again until we bring awareness to them.

Early wounds are often relational in nature, so the work I do may include exploring experiences in early life. However, we focus on what is happening the in the here and now- in your life and in the therapeutic space together. Narratives that were instilled in us as children are often accepted as reality without question, but now they may be counterproductive, harmful, and can interfere with a healthy adult life. Putting thoughts to words in a safe space allows these messages to come to surface where they can be metabolized and released.

Counseling of this nature can help you improve self-awareness and be a catalyst for deep, sustained change- not just temporary symptom relief. Successful therapeutic work can look like an ability to embrace a wide spectrum of emotions without judgement and to more successfully manage the inherent and inevitable pain of human life.

The only requirement for us to work successfully together is for you to show up and just say anything. Really. That's it.
