My Approach to Helping

Do you feel anxious, sad, or just overwhelmed? So many times we will grab an aspirin or a band-aid when we get physically hurt or have some kind of pain. Why is it so hard for us to get help when our heart hurts or when our thoughts are breaking us? Why is it so easy to take care and call a doctor but harder to call when our heart hurts?

Counseling is taking the first steps to heal your body, soul, AND mind but it completes the brokenness we may need for our emotional, physical, and mental health. Not only taking care of our past hurts but finding strength in the pain that we have been trying so hard to ignore. It may be the very thing that has been affecting our relationships, work, and even just life.

During times of depression, anxiety, or any concerns-it can be very difficult choosing a professional. Walking with you through some of these struggles that you have --takes time, patience, as well as compassion. We can help you feel more comfortable by taking a positive and encouraging approach and listening to your needs specifically. We look at not only the hurts but the person as a whole. We listen to your needs.

The choice to move forward is up to you to make if the time is right and you feel the ability to work on your concerns.. Choose to make the first move and decide when the time is right for you. You are worth it and we are here to help to give you positive encouragement and tools in the right direction to healing.

More Info About My Practice

I use positive and encouraging counseling techniques. We take the time to get to know your needs and how you want to take the steps towards healing. My style is warm, supportive, and compassionate but we focus on positive changes. Together, we will develop goals that fit you and that produce results and you look forward to life. I am certified in strength-based motivational and cognitive behavioral counseling including forms of positive psychology, pastoral counseling, and clinical neuropsychology.

Anxiety and fear are common issues and sometimes becomes the focus of your everyday life. Healing and joy should be first in your life. Going from survival to living life in a positive way-- can make the difference in your body, mind, and emotions. Through your struggles, you can find hope and healing - pain is just a path that sometimes gives your strength and compassion for the future once you move through it. We look at the mind, body, and spirit connection.

In our struggles, we learn to fly. Pain can become your cocoon and sometimes it will take healing and some growing to gain your wings to see you soar in a new and better direction. As counselors - we are just the ones who ask how high you want to fly. It is up to you to choose how your pain can be your strength and become your mission and purpose. With over 20 years in this field, DeeDee has deep compassion to work with those who are hurting and empathetically walks with those on each individual's healing journey. Also as an advocate for those with Aspergers, ADHD, and many more learning disabilities issues, she continues to be additionally a pioneer in the mental health field with Adolescent and Adult Populations. Overall, it is her compassion that drives her to continue counseling as a mission for her love of serving Christ and His people.

DeeDee has worked overall in her career from detention centers, churches, mission trips, to Ohio State University and private practice. In all those experiences, she has found that people are hurting; more importantly, they need to be heard and encouraged. Using different approaches that match an individual's needs, we look to your heart, body, and mind for joyful healing to begin.

My Therapy Focus

DeeDee uses a combination of clinical, positive counseling, neuropsychology, including if so inclined --Biblical and Godly principles to reinforce the positive in the midst of turmoil and crisis. She is passionate about working and serving those who are wounded or hurt; empowering you with new hope and strength. Using encouraging and motivational counseling, she works with creative and life-changing techniques to help you walk through the most difficult struggles and pain in your life; showing you that in times of pain, your power comes in rising from the ashes when you forge through your struggles and brokenness. Some of the most difficult things you may be going through may become your strength and motivation to soar higher in being more like Christ.

Important Factors for Choosing a Therapist

You do not have to settle because they are "in your network or they are the first therapist you call". It is important that you ask questions and that you get answers that are acceptable to you.

Some factors in choosing a therapist to consider are:
1- Do their values align with yours?
2- Do you prefer a male or female therapist?
3- What qualities are you looking for in a therapist that are important to you?
4- Do they offer a free consultation to see if they are a good fit for your needs?
5- Do they have the expertise you are looking for?
6- Are they a provider for your insurance or do they offer you Out-of-Network Discounts for payment?
7-Do they offer referrals if you do not feel after a few sessions you are not a good fit?
8-Are the accountable to a Board, Certification, and Licensing standards?
