My Approach to Helping
People often seek counseling because some part of their life is stuck, or because they are in pain or distress. In my work with individuals, couples, families, and polycules, I help you get unstuck. Counseling at its best can combine practical, helpful tools with improved understanding and self-love. The first question most people ask me is, "Will you do more than just listen?" In my 12 years as a counselor, I've learned the importance of providing a mix of listening, skill training, and deep processing. I attempt to create a judgment-free space where we can work as a team to help you address what is most important to you.
I've helped individuals work through a number of issues, including long-term depression, unshakable anxiety, relationship challenges, dating burnout, job frustrations, and substance use. Together, we will identify what's working, what isn't, and create a clear plan for making changes. We also explore the events in your life that helped you get here.
When working with couples, families, and polycules, I first help to identify and reduce areas of conflict that increasingly cause tension and pain. Often, this involves simple agreements and plans. Once a sense of safety has been established, we then work to identify and address the underlying issues that created the conflict.
