My Approach to Helping
My mission as a therapist is to walk with you as you move toward living confidently and meaningfully. If you are searching for a therapist you may be feeling as though your struggles are currently determining the course of your life. You may feel that your current life circumstances are far away from the stability, engagement, and connection you desire. Feelings of sadness, worry, or loneliness may seem to be center of your life. I am here to be part of your journey toward contentment and meaning. I will work in collaboration with you to explore and redefine past and present experiences. Together we will find the emotional pain points and work to heal and re-orient them through a model of therapy appropriate for you. My View on the Nature of 'Disorders'
I believe that much of our suffering is simply an effect of our humanity. Heightened emotional experience can be a reaction to what we have not yet learned to manage. Intense feelings of depression, anxiety, trauma reactions, etc have been labeled as disorders. This contributes to the stigma placed on mental health struggles. It also can discourage people from seeking the help they need. The models of therapy I practice place little emphasis on detailed descriptions of "disorders." The focus is instead on experience of the world and increased satisfaction in life. This is not intended to diminish the struggles that come from biological vulnerabilities, but to honor the unique human experience that occurs when living as a person outside of neurotypicalsocially typical expectations.
