My Approach to Helping
"I see my attacker every time I leave the house"...."I can't enjoy sex because I think about when I was abused"....""When I hear fireworks, I'm reminded of the war"..."Every time it storms, I think of when the tornado ripped my house apart"...Do you have some of these same experiences?
These type of statements are the type of things many of my clients present telling me, as I specialize in treating people with PTSD. Everything you thought you knew has changed, and it seems like no one understands what it's like to constantly feel like you're on a rollercoaster. You never thought you'd be in this place. You feel alone, confused, and angry, and you wish you could just wave a magic wand and have all of this just be over.
You want to be able to think about your future and feel hopeful instead of constantly ruminating over what you "should" have done differently. You want to stop thinking about the past. You want to find that piece of yourself that got lost somewhere along the way. I have treated hundreds of people with PTSD throughout several years. I try to teach my clients how to take their painful experiences and eventually mold them into something positive. Along the way, I show them coping skills and ways to handle the present pain. I know it isn't just adults who have experienced trauma! I have a room stocked with toys where I provide trauma informed play therapy as well.
You're looking for a therapist who gets it, who's down to earth, and who can help you get through this really difficult time in your life. You Googled 10 different phrases trying to find the right fit for you but quickly realized that there are 100+ therapists to choose from, and all of their blurbs start to sound the same after a while. My hope is that you find exactly what you are looking for here. I try to make the process of therapy easy and convenient for busy professionals, with 24/7 online scheduling.
Please see my website if you have resonated with my profile, and want to know more about me. There, you will find a link to some of the articles I have written or where I have been interviewed by journalists, to read more about my view and style. You can also check out my facebook page.
I know that many of my clients are highly anxious people and even talking to someone to schedule an appointment can be daunting! For this reason, I offer online scheduling. I know it has taken a lot for you to get to the point of looking up a therapist and the process of calling and speaking to so many therapists to find the right one can feel overwhelming. I don't want to create more anxiety for you! For this reason, feel free to schedule online. Also, feel free to email me any questions you have :).
When you do come to the appointment, I try to make it as gentle for you as possible. I have a private waiting room that is only used by my patients. I'm a tiny practice so there is usually just one client at a time waiting. Thus, you won't be in a room crowded with people! I know from experience that experience is incredibly difficult for someone with PTSD or Panic Disorder. In the waiting room, you'll find herbal teas to help relax and calm you. Usually, there will be calming meditation music playing. For children, there are toys and books available. Once inside, I keep the lighting low to help with anxiety and usually have essential oils being diffused. Clients are offered warm blankets or even lap weights to help them calm down. Children have sensory items available to them. We make all decisions in the practice through the lens of our client's high anxiety.
You will learn that you're stronger than you ever imagined and even gain some valuable friendships along the way. Click on my website link now and learn if I am the right fit for you.
