My Approach to Helping

Thanks for taking the time to check out my profile! I am happy to share my qualifications, experience, and my therapeutic style with you.
I ensure the people in my care receive attentive, compassionate and comprehensive treatment that is grounded in evidence-based, modern approaches. The fact that I am one of only two mental health professionals in San Diego with board certification in clinical child and adolescent psychology, means my treatment techniques are highly specialized. This advanced training contributes to a thorough comprehension of your child's specific make up and family condition. Rest assured that you will be actively involved in the therapeutic process, as you are the most important resource in my work with your child.
I am fully aware that it is not always easy to seek professional help, particularly when you observe that your child has behavioral challenges, is not meeting expected developmental milestones, or is experiencing distress. You may even feel overwhelmed with feelings of helplessness, anger, discouragement, or shame. My gentle, empathic approach guarantees great care will be taken when we address any issues that are particularly sensitive.

My View on the Purpose of Psychotherapy

I believe that the purpose of therapy for children is to help them get back on track with their peers and to resolve any issues or barriers to their living a fulfilled life. I understand the unique value and importance of relationships throughout life. As such, one of the key aspects involved in my treatment is to provide support and guidance in strengthening the parent-child relationship so that each person can find more pleasure in their interactions with one another. I also want to support parents in their parenting role and help them access other supports when appropriate. Psychotherapy should be sufficiently flexible to meet the unique needs of the individual client and family situation.
