I specialize in trauma therapy. I will help you get to the root cause of your anxiety, depression, feelings of worthlessness, perfectionism, and problems with trust, rather than just teaching you to cope with the symptoms. Many of us have experienced events which qualify as traumatic, although we may not recognize them as such. We wonder why it is difficult to move past the emotions related to these experiences. Although others may tell you to get over it, you may find it impossible to 'just move on' without processing the trauma. Effects of experiences from childhood can linger for a lifetime - the feelings usually don't go away on their own. However, therapy with a qualified trauma specialist can help you heal from childhood physical, emotional and sexual abuse as well as physical and emotional neglect. I use verbal and non-verbal methods to process trauma including Sensorimotor Psychotherapy - a mindfulness-based somatic approach- as well as expressive arts techniques, and traditional talk therapy. I'm also a Certified Daring WayTM Facilitator. I use this approach and the Rising Strong method, based on the research of Brene Brown, to build resilience to shame. Within the safety of a trusting therapeutic relationship you will be able to resolve the emotions related to your traumatic experiences so you can begin to build meaningful connection with your true self and the important people in your life. I am very experienced at helping clients who have experienced traumatic events. I hold a Trauma Certificate - Advanced, Level II from the Institute for Advanced Psychotherapy Training & Education. I have worked with adult clients with childhood abuse issues including emotional and physical neglect as well as physical, sexual and emotional abuse since 2003. I have witnessed dozens of people completing therapy feeling better than they ever thought possible in relatively short periods of time.
