My philosophy and approach to helping children and teens centers around the understanding that children and teenagers speak to us through mediums unlike that of adults. Children use play as their natural language, whereby the toys they choose become the words they speak from their own experiences. Teenagers are the most creative and expressive beings in our world and by utilizing this creativity and expression through art, dance, drama, writing, etc., I am then providing a safe and freeing environment for a teenager to speak in the way he or she chooses without consequence, but only support and comfort.

Specific Issue(s) I'm Skilled at Helping With

For children, any and all issues that are brought to my practice are welcome, which includes those concerns that not only effects the child, but those that may impact the entire family and especially siblings.

My View on the Purpose of Psychotherapy

Play Psychotherapy is a process that provides the child or teenager an opportunity to learn how to express emotion and more effectively manage these emotions in a way that is healthy and appropriate. It offers a safe space to learn about emotions, how to cope with these emotions, express oneself in a way that he or she never felt safe or ready to and just needed the experiential environment and therapeutic relational process that Play Therapy provides.

What I Love about Being a Psychotherapist

I absolutely totally completely love each and every opportunity to have the honor of working with children and their families. I am constantly learning about families and their children and it amazes me each and every time how magnificent and special each child and teen is and the great meaning they have to our world.
