My Approach to Helping
My name is Karen Loka and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) based in the Eau Claire, WI area, working with clients in MN, WI and IA via telehealth. I work with adults and specialize in depression, anxiety, stress, pain management, difficulty sleeping, and grief and loss. I use Person-Centered Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectic Behavioral Therapy, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy to help my clients navigate a forward path. My approach to therapy varies based on the clients needs most often matched with Person-Centered Therapy and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.
I have found my style of therapy is best suited to adults that are dealing with transitional and chronic health challenges to develop a more positive outlook on life. My style of communication is non-judgmental, empathetic, calm, patient, an active listener, being organized and culturally competent. My attraction to being a therapist comes from a family of caregivers. My grandma instilled in me the importance of being kind and helping others, as did my parents. My mother was a nurse and my father a counselor at a juvenile detention center; all of which began my interest in a career as a therapist. What drives me is to be able to help others along part(s) of their path and how humbling it can be. I utilize goal setting in a collabrative way by building trust, reach an understand of how you want to accomplish time in session and track your progress.
What you can expect in our first session is to spend the majority of the time learning about how you have been feeling, the catalyst that prompts it and how we can work together to find the balance you need. Each individual is unique and deserves to be heard.
