"What lies behind you and what lies in front of you pales in comparison to what lies within you." - Ralph Waldo Emerson

Asking for help requires a great deal of courage and insight, which is why I strive to help those who seek assistance however I can. My approach is client-centered and non-judgmental which allows for those who are brave enough to embark on this journey to achieve their goals in a manner that works best for them. It is only after people feel comfortable with their therapist that therapy can progress, which is why I place such a high emphasis on the therapeutic relationship.

A large part of my practice focuses on processing through past trauma or distressing events with clients through the use of Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing. Please visit my website for more information on this form of psychotherapy.

Additionally, I work with a variety of issues that include but are not limited to couples issues, anxiety, codependency, and many others. I refer to therapy as a journey often because I truly believe that this process will take us to many different stops and places which may be accompanied by some road blocks or detours, but in the end with gentle guidance from a therapist, you can reach your goals or destination so to speak.

More Info About My Practice

It is very normal to feel nervous and apprehensive before beginning therapy BUT try to remember that you have already completed one of the hardest steps of this process which is asking for the help that you need and deserve.

On the Fence About Going to Therapy?

It is very common for people to feel on the fence about beginning therapy. Some of the common things I hear are
"my problems aren't that bad, I can deal with them myself"
"therapy is for crazy/weak people"
"you wouldn't understand what I've been through so how can you help me?"

The great thing about therapy that many people are unaware of is that you don't have to have "serious problems or trauma" to benefit from it. As a matter of fact, it is often times very beneficial to begin therapy when someone feels this way because they are then able to focus on gaining insight and getting in touch with their authentic self (two processes that can have the most affect in therapy). These are processes that are usually addressed in therapy regardless, but are usually not the initial focus if there are other issues or problems that need to be addressed first.

Typically as humans we tend to have some concerns about trying something new and different. I typically tell people that are feeling this way that while therapy is by no means easy, the results that can be achieved from it are well worth the journey.

How My Own Struggles Made Me a Better Therapist

Many times in life we feel that we just want to be heard by someone that can relate to us. While it is true that everyone is different and have had unique experiences, most of us have felt pain, shame, and isolation at some point in our lives. As a therapist who has felt these things, I know from first hand experience what it is like to need validation and support from others and not receive it.

Therefore, I strive to provide these essential needs to every person who begins this journey. Additionally, because everyone is different, a large portion of the beginning parts of therapy is gathering information from you in regards to what you feel you need from me as your therapist to help you heal from past hurts and to achieve your goals.
